My Next Camera

Sony Alpha A7 iii

My current camera is a Sony a6000 mirrorless camera. It is only the second camera I have owned that you can change the lens. I currently have six lenses for my camera and they cover just about every need, especially considering I am not a professional. But my Sony is getting long in the tooth now, and I have recently started using it for videography regularly.

I have loved taking pictures since I can remember. I have many albums filled with photos that I have taken. Most of the albums are filled with photos I took with film cameras. Today, with platforms like Facebook, Flickr, and WordPress, I seldom prints photos. The only one I do print today are very special photos that have a sentimental value, mostly family photos.

When I bought the camera I didn’t understand the difference between a mirrorless camera and a DSLR, specifically the differences between a full frame and crop frame camera. I really want to move to a full frame camera but all my lenses are for a crop frame camera. I know the trade-offs that you must accept when using crop lens on a full frame camera. But I have such a large investment in lens, I really don’t want to have to buy a bunch of full frame lenses for any new full frame camera I may buy.

I have done a lot of reading and research, and it seems like the best path for me, especially since I am not a professional, is to buy a new mirrorless camera. But I have this itch. I really want a new Sony Alpha A7 ii. I would really like a new Sony Alpha a7iii but I’m not rich. So what I have decided to do is buy the new Sony Alpha A7 ii, get full frame lens for it, and use the other lens I already have with it too. There will be trade-offs, but I can live with that.

Maybe I can sell a couple of my old lens to pay for another full frame lens down the road. Anyway, we shall see what I will do. Just thinking out loud here really. Any suggestions?
